Where to stay in London

My husband and I will be visiting London for the first time in August, flying into LHR just after Olympic losing ceremonies. We're a fairly young couple, 30s. We like to go out, drinks, good food, wine, party, and would like to visit touristy spots such as Buckingham, London Eye, Westminster, perhaps a day trip to Stonehenge. We will be there about 4 solid days.

Can anyone recommend what part of London we should stay that is central to good food/drinks and easily accessible to main attractions? Can any recommend a good hotel/BB for $150 usd or less?

Is there a cool pub/nightclub to hit up on a Thursday or Friday night?

A good place for high tea?

A must try restaurant? Steak/seafood or traditional British faire are what we're looking for.

Where is a good shopping district? Shopping is very limited where I live, so I like to go a little crazy when I travel. :)

Thank you so much!

"A good place for high tea?"

I think what you're probably looking for is "afternoon tea" not "high tea" which is different and many places don't do it anymore.

We have always enjoyed staying in Greenwich. It's got a village-y feel, with lots of good restaurants and a great market at the weekend. There are also lots of sights to see, and you can catch the ferry down the Thames to the city. It works out cheaper than staying in central London, but it still has easy access.

Twickenham has some nice pubs and bars. Close to the River and Richmond. I wouldn't worry about Stonehenge if you are only here for 4 days - it will take up a whole day and you'll only be there an hour. Take the bus to Hampton Court from Twickenham instead (281). Then the boat down the Thames for SHOPPING in Kingston!

Train from Twickenham to London very fast and direct - and the Travelodge isn't fancy but it is in your price range.
