Heathrow T5 to Liverpool Street Station

I have relatives arriving at T5 at about 14.00 hrs on a Thursday,

which would be the best route to get to Liverpool Street station using the Heathrow Express, they will have luggage with them.

The best route would be NOT to use the Heathrow Express.

With two or more people, with luggage, I would look at a pre-booked car service (door to door, no changes, and cheaper than the HEX which only goes to Paddington anyway) using one of the generally well reviewed providers here -

Heathrow Express is not the best route - unless they want to pay for a taxi as well once they reach Paddington.

The cheapest - and probably quickest - route is to take the Piccadilly Line to Holborn, then change to the Central Line for Liverpool Street.

Are they stopping at Liverpool Street or are they going somewhere else from there?

Hi,

The Heathrow Express train goes to Paddington station. From there, catch the underground train. The circle or Hammersmith and City line goes directly to Liverpool Street.

Thank you for your help, I just thought the HEX was the easy option, they will be travelling on to Southend from Liverpool street.

The HEX costs plenty and will take them out of the way for Liverpool Street.

Taking the Piccadilly plus Central line will mean stairs down at Holborn plus one long escalator trek as well as stairs at Liverpool Street, but it's not a grim journey, even with luggage.

If they're not in a hurry, and need to avoid the stairs, then take the Piccadilly line to Kings Cross St. Pancras, and then change to a Hammersmith&City or Circle line train (from the same platform) to Liverpool Street. About 20 minutes longer than via Holborn but step free.

The maximum fare for any tube journey from Heathrow is £5.30 per person, compared to £19 on the HEX (just to Paddington) from where they'd have to take the tube (£4.30 each) or taxi (£20) anyway. A car service from Heathrow would cost between £38-45 for both/all.

I take it they want Southend Victoria and not Southend Central.

Step free route to Southend Victoria would be.

Piccadilly line to Hammersmith

Cross platform change to District Line to Mile End

Cross platform change to Central Line to Stratford

Cross platform change to mainline train to Southend Victoria. It may be quicker to change platforms at Stratford to catch a faster train (lifts available) depending on the time they get there.

One extra change, but no walking about in stations.

The suggestion above (use Stratford) is not only step free but cheaper. The tube fare remains the same, but the national rail fare (journey starting from Stratford) will be slightly cheaper.

I had thought about the Stratford option, but ...

>> Cross platform change to mainline train to Southend Victoria. <<

Nope, as they would have to exit the station via the ticket barriers, then buy the rail ticket to Southend, and re-enter via the barriers and make their way back to the platform. Buying the rail ticket at Liverpool Street would imo be much easier.

Why ?

They should be able to buy a through ticket at Heathrow, but you can't ! Can't see why but those are the rules. Nothing about buying a second ticket at Heathrow for Stratford to Southend though ;-)

National Rail web site shows the cheapest way is via Fenchurch Street to SoS Central and then walk !
