On what date and time are you travelling? Are you planning any further travel within London on that day and or subsequent days?

Also what is your actual destination? Are you carrying luggage?

Best route will probably be train from Stansted towards London, changing for Victoria Line at Tottenham Hale, or at Liverpool Street taking the central Line towards Bond Street.

But it depends.

For Southwark, this is route is cheap and usually as quick as train.

Take coach from Stansted to Stratford - both National Express and Terravision operate this route. I would just walk to the coach station at the airport and see which bus is leaving for Stratford first. Fare £6 - £9, depends on which one you use.

From Stratford take Jubilee line - which runs direct to Southwark tube. A cash fare is £4.30 but can be as low as £2.60 using Oyster. If you have further plans for the day, a one day travelcard from Stratford would be a good investment at £7.70 (off peak).

You can travel from Stansted to London by train for £22.60 return, which is £11.30 each way.

Buy a ticket from Audley End to London, off-peak return, valid for one month. Audley End is the next station from Stansted, so this ticket is valid from Stansted Airport.

Best to buy the ticket online and collect from the ticket machine at the station.

From Liverpool Street (the terminus for the train), take bus number 344.It's only a little over a mile. £1.35 single Oyster fare, £2.30 cash.

This is easier than taking the tube, since it saves the walk from the tube station to your hotel (the bus passes very close to the hotel). Buses run every 6 to 7 minutes.

The £22.60 Off-peak return fare has these restrictions:

valid for one month from date of outbound

valid anytime weekends

Valid on the 09:15, or later, from Stansted Airport to Liverpool Street weekdays

Valid on the 09:40 to 16:25 inclusive, and the 18:39 or later, from Liverpool Street to Stansted Airport
