There's no "average". It changes every day. Use the link given to see what it is today. If you look tomorrow or next week it may be slightly different. Up or down, nobody knows. But the difference won't be significant, and for the amounts of money the average tourist will spend on an average trip - since you're so fond of averages - the total difference won't amount to more than a few cups of coffee, if that. Average coffee, of course.

Welcome to the forum, Larry!

$1.55773/£ is the current interbank rate. This can change moment to moment.

US Credit cards add 0% to 3% conversion fee.

US debit cards add 0% to 3% conversion fee plus $0 to $5 fee for ATM withdrawals

UK Exchange bureaus add 1% to 25% to the purchase price.

Wells Fargo adds a little over 5% at their International Teller sites.

Some US banks offer pounds for 5% to 7% markup plus a delivery fee.

Travelex in the US adds 13% or more in my experience.

I recommend these two links to anyone concerned about exchange rates:

Full agree that Larry should look this up himself but I would dearly love to know why he came here to ask rather than use more conventional (newspaper, bank, bureau de change) means.
