Park & Ride near a tube station?

Hi,

we are comming from dover and want to park our car at a car park at the end of a tube line if possible? we don't want to drive around london so we prefer the east side if possible?

we will be visiting chelsea (football game) and need to take the tube back to the parking lot after the game before we head over to folkstone to take the train back.

someone got any suggestions where to park our car? we will be arriving around 9-10 in the moring and leave around 11-12 at night

At Chelsea harbour under the design centre is a large -paying -car park-not free but should be OK if you arrive some hours before the match -walking distance to ground

M2 -M25-M3 -A3 for route

I would take the train !

Are we talking about a Saturday or Sunday? If so then traffic may not be too bad but I would avoid driving midweek if at all possible especially in winter. Having said that the route suggested above means you won't be driving on urban roads until the final section and may have time to do other things before or after the game depending on kick-off time.

Hi adamhornets,

It's gonna be a wednesday, the 7th of November. We will be arriving in Folkstone in the morning, so there should be plenty of time.

Since you say to avoid driving there midweek, can you suggest another spot to park our car, somewhere a bit more out of the city centre?

I was thinking more of leaving the car at home and taking the Eurostar to St Pancras but as the last departure back to Brussels leaves before kick off and I assume an overnight stay in one of the many budget hotels close to the station isn't an option then it looks like the car will be the way to go.

At least you have plenty of time, the rush hour will be over by the time you set off and once you get away from central London, the route suggested shouldn't be too busy.

But the game won't finish until 9.30 and it's still the better part of two hours from Chelsea (or indeed another tube station close by) to the terminal which is leaving it way too tight for the final train of the day at midnight.

Which brings us back to Eurostar and a hotel!

We will be taking the shuttle back 3AM so we will make it. we were thinking about taking the one back at 1.30 but that would be to tight :)

fact is that we want to keep it fast and budget. we don't have to pay for the gas as long as we fill our tank in belgium. eurostar + one night stay is at least 100€ so :)

Sorry, didn't realise there were services after midnight. I think then the Chelsea Harbour option is a decent one especially as there are no car parks at tube stations on the Wimbledon branch of the District line, the branch that runs through Fulham Broadway and on into central London.

Enjoy the game!

Do you know if the Chelsea Harbour is free from the congestion tax?

The station at North Greenwich is beside the A2, which is the fastest road route to/from London to/from the Kent ports. Although it would mean a slightly more complicated tube journey to the match, it avoids you having to drive through central London. From this car park, you can be at the eurotunnel entrance in less than an hour, without breaking traffic laws.

You cannot enter this car park (without a season ticket) before 1100, so don't arrive too early. Car park closes at midnight
