Chelsm - see the website that LeeB posted.

The tickets took about 2 weeks to get from the time I mailed my request to the time I got them in hand. I attended the ceremony in January and really can't speak highly enough about it, especially since I love the history of the Tower. I really enjoyed being in there at night and seeing the 700 year old ceremony. You enter the tower at 9:30, but there ceremony doesn't start until 9:53 and lasts for 7 minutes. You will get a history of the ceremony before it. Because of the Q&A at the end - we didn't get out until 10:30. Here are some tips:

1. Get there no later than 9:20pm. if you are late - they won't admit you

2. don't forget your tickets - no ticket, no entrance, no excuses

3. ask questions - the warders are really helpful

4. nothing is open in the area at night - so use the restroom before you get to the Tower

5. no cameras before the ceremony - but you can take some great night shots outside the gate, if you are interested.

Hope this helps.

My husband and I went a few weeks ago, and definitely was one our favorite things from the trip. Very ceremonial and interesting. It's something that not everyone does, so it makes it a bit more special.

Thanks for bumping this back up. It's reminded me to get tickets for January.

Does anyone know if they still do the ceremony if it rains?

They do it rain or shine, whether anyone shows up or not - for the past 700 + years. :o)

Yep - I can't imagine them saying "It's raining today, so we won't lock up"

then they head into their own bar which has beer for £1.00 a pint....apparently very cosy, has a very sloping floor, which conveiniently slopes towards the bar LOL (all the booze is duty free and subbed)
