Going to London for New Years!

Going to London tomorrow and staying till January 1st, and I have a couple of questions that I bet someone here can help us out with. :)

First of all we're landing at Gatwick, and staying at Club Quarters St. Pauls. Google Maps tells me that the best way to get from one to the other (both ways actually) is to take the Brighton to Bedford train, is this correct? Does this train stop at the airport itself?

Secondly, is everything open on this Sunday and Monday in London?

And lastly, where should we go for fireworks on New Years? And where should we eat? I assume most of the good restaurants are already fully booked at this time?

Any other recommendations for stuff to do over the next couple of days? We've been to London 5-6 times before, so we've seen most of the tourist places. The plan right now is just to go shopping and relaxing.

That train definitely stops at Gatwick and then within London it stops at London Bridge, Blackfriars and St. Pancras. From any of those, you can then move by tube.

As for the shops, they will definitely be open on Sunday (from 12 am) and Monday. The sales are on, so be ready for the crowds.

The station you should get off at is City Thameslink on the Bedford line.

Take the exit at the rear of the train marked Ludgate Hill and turn right as you exit the station and Club Quarters is 2 minutes walk towards St Pauls

Going to the fireworks:

Note- you need to find a spot along the river by 8 or 9pm latest and not move. Police close the area once they're 'full'.

As for restaurants, pubs etc, too many to mention. Best check Time Out or View London.

The shops will be open from 12am? I don't think so.

Trains to Gatwick on 1st January do not stop at City Thameslink.

==================================================

In which case, cstromme, get the FCC train to London Bridge and then the 17 bus to Ludgate HIll, one stop past St Paul's ( virtually opposite Clubquarters).

Or get a black cab from London Bridge, it shouldn't be more than about £10.

Or you could just get off at Blackfriars (it's very close to City Thameslink) and walk.

With City Thameslink closed on New Years' Day, your options for your return to Gatwick Airport are either to travel to London Bridge (reversing the directions given in post 6) or to walk to Blackfriars - not too far away from Ludgate Hill. At London Bridge, you would be catching a train that has called at Blackfriars.

Aha, leaving on the 1st. Indeed, you will need to go from Blackfriars or London Bridge unless you are doing something elsewhere in London first.
