The Victoria Pub down London Street is one of our favorites in the area. We just ate there last week. food was excellent, but it seems to have all new bar people. The Pride of Paddington on Praed Street is also good food and friendly place. There is a great fish and chips place called Mickey's at the End of Norfolk Square. the Ganges on Praed Street is an old school Indian restaurant that is very good. The area is very convenient with four tube lines at Paddington and one more at Lancaster Gate just five blocks away. Hyde Park is also only 5/6 blocks away.

Sheldon Square is a relatively new series of glass emporiums to the North of the station and as such rather cut off from Paddington.

However all is not lost, if you go down to the canal and turn right after a five minute walk you can cut through to Praed Street. Were you to walk to the left under the road the area of Little Venice is nice for a stroll.

This is the best restaurant in the area.

And this is the best pub.

The Victoria is actually in Strathearn Place at the bottom end of London Street but certainly one of the best pubs in the area.

The above suggestions of Mickeys etc are good, just avoid the Angus Steak House in Praed Street :-)

Head a little west toward Notting Hill and you hit the Bayswater/Queensway area of town. I always stay in this area and am very fond of it.

Nice pubs and restaurants

Cleveland Arms

local atmosphere...Not touristy at all.

Leinster Arms

authentic pub atmosphere and very good reasonably priced food.

Also, in Sheldon Square itself is a Chinese which gets mixed reviews although it was ok when I ate there, and a bar and grill place next to the canal which is very good although I can't remember the name of it!

Still better than Angus though

We just came back from a long weekend in London from the States and would recommend seeing the Churchill War Rooms and Windsor Castle if you haven't done that before. This was our 3rd visit and first time at these sites.

Also went to Veeraswarmy for dinner by a friends recommendation - it's in Picadilly Circus and it was amazing Indian food (for a price.)

Enjoy!

The Chinese restaurant in Sheldon Square is called Pearl Liang. pearlliang.co.uk/london/restaurant/index.asp It does good dim sum but not better than any other Chinese restaurants in Chinatown (located in the West End close to Leicester Square). A Chinese restaurant which I like is the Phoenix Palace (close to Baker Street which is a couple of stops from Paddington on the undergournd). http://www.phoenixpalace.co.uk/

A nice pub with character close to your hotel about 10-15 mins walk away is the Prince Alfred pub http://www.theprincealfred.com/

Another pub which we sometimes go to in the area is the Bridge House http://www.thebridgehouselittlevenice.co.uk/

If you want to see the crowds and do some shopping you could walk to Oxford Street via Edgware Road and Marble Arch. Edgware Road is very colourful with lots of Middle Eastern restaurants and shops and shisha cafes.

Have a nice stay!
