The Railway: Keeping Britain on Track. New BBC series

For those locals and visitors interested in the runnings of UK railways there is a new BBC 6 part series. Watched the first one last night which was about Kings Cross as it re-opened last year. Looks very nce

Still available on the iplayer for those with access or a proxy ip to enable access elsewhere in the world or perhaps download it from a bit torrent.

Have to say that the East Coast manager was a bit of a smarmy knob but on the whole the programme was interesting to the travelling public. Might be good to watch if you are visiting London soon and need to use this station and travellig by rail. Don't know what the next episode is about though.

Anyone else see it?

The buildings at the front of Kings Cross (is that what you mean by 'arrivals'?) are being demolished. The area will be landscaped as a public square, revealing Cubitt's frontage in its full glory. Its simplistic, understated lines provide a wonderful counterpoint to Gilbert Scott's overblown Victorian Gothic pile next door.

Oh curmudgeons, this was rather splendid series as seen largely through eyes of staff, most of whom were pretty cheerfully positive in face of much passenger indifference. Venom sometimes. Pity 'David Brent' got in the act, though, but there again East Coast is the company which insists on telling you "you're arriving into..." Now that is a railway 'something' which persistently rankles!
