Money exchange: Now or Later

Hi all,

Not knowing what the exchange rate will do, do you think it would be wise to get some pounds now for a trip in November. I know the rate changes daily, but does anyone remember when it has gotten, significantly, better over a period of months. I kind of equate this to the current gas price situation. I just don't see prices coming down, hoping eventually they will stop climbing, but I think our days of gas for less than $2.50 gallon are over. So, should I buy pounds now and save a bit (tiny), or is there anyone out there who really thinks it might get better, and can recall a time when it did? I just filled my car up and it has put me in a mood!

One more thing please, I know the time goes back in October(?), so in mid-November it should still stay light out until when?

Thanks!

I'd personally put the money into interest bearing CD's and then exchange later.

km: I'd wait till November only because I like to think positive thoughts.

As for staying light out, actually in mid-November it gets dark around 4 or 4:30. Which is great for taking photos of the Christmas lights.

change some money now, on the radio here today there were talking about the dollar weakening against the yen, pound and euro, suggesting we could see $2 to the £1 this year! as for lighting up times, in November it will be dark by or before 5pm

Dark by five is better than dark by 3:30. About what time does the sun rise? Thanks for the money tips, I think I will get some now.

You can check sunrise and sunset times at www.timeanddate.com - link via their World Clock. Sunrise for mid November is about 0715 and sunset about 1615.

As far as changing money, it's a tough call. For myself, I buy bits of foreign currency when I have a bit of spare cash and the rates are good - a month ago it was $C2.01 to £1, but now it's about $C2.10 to £1, so I should have moved fast four weeks ago.

Not to get too political but I believe the man who nominated Greenspan's successor has stated that he believes the dollar needs to be weaker. Perhaps the fed chairman already has his car in overdrive.
