best traditional pie houses in London

Does any one have suggestions for traditional English restaurant's in London that serve working class meals. Things like Eel pie, Shepherd's pie, Cottage pie etc. I would also love any suggestions for places that serve wild game as well as things we don't often see in the USA like pigeon, partridge or quail. Any help will be much appreciated.

To me, a pie is encased in pastry. Too many places these days call a casserole dish with a pastry lid a "pie", but to me it's a stew or a casserole with flakey pastry on the top. It ain't no pie.

The best pie shops are long gone.

Eel pie isn't that an island on the Thames. ?

Cottage and Shepherd's pie aren't proper working class meals. Faggots, Yorkshire pudding served as a starter and Cornish pasties now they are working class meals.

It's extremely unlikely you'll see eel, partridge, pigeon or quail pie anywhere in London, though it's possible the last of these may be served occasionally in a very high-end restaurant somewhere. You may see shepherds pie or cottage pie on the menu in some pubs, especially at lunchtimes. Alternatively you could try looking in a traditional greasy spoon cafe, though these are rare in touristy parts of London. One iconic cafe that's good for a traditional breakfast or lunch is the Regency Cafe on Regency Street, SWI (near Victoria Street).

(Late amendment: Shepherds pie and cottage pie are most definitely working class meals, or at least were.)

What about jellied eels? Any suggestions for a place that serves them? I heard that Clarks sometimes has them on the menu.

Use the search function as there has been recent topics on this forum about jellied eels as well as pie and mash shops.

Just out of interest - why the "working class meals" thing ? If that's your interest then you really don't need to go searching for some mythical eel pie. Just head out of central London to a greasy spoon cafe for brekkie, a fish and chip shop for lunch, a local boozer for a couple of pints, a lower league footie match, then a curry. Stick the first two albums by "The Jam" on your ipod, and you're sorted. You may need your arteries declogging at the end of it, but your day's consumption would at least be vaguely authentic.
