Pubs near Bloomsbury?

I'm staying just west of Bloomsbury, right by the Goodge Street Underground. Suggestions for pubs? I like traditional pub food (but good). I'm spending a lot on the hotel, so please no pricey places! And I'm alone and female, so a woman-friendly place would be appreciated. You know what I mean, somewhere I can have a meal and pint and no one will notice me!

This website may help a little - http://www.fancyapint.com/

The pubs in the immediate area are all rather bland with one or two too many trendy types for my liking but The King & Queen on Foley Street is a decent option - http://www.fancyapint.com/Pub/10

This pub may be worth a visit:

Charlotte Street nearby has a good range of cheaper eating places.

Thanks-- I keep seeing one called "The College Arms," but it seems too trendy for someone my age!

Well, any pub with a "pie room" is right for me. :) I'm envisioning a great big marble pie-crust slab bar!

I'd walk the twenty minutes down here.

I've always liked The Jack Horner (http://jackhornerpub.co.uk/).

Traditional style pub with a decent range of beers. About 200 metres from Goodge Street straight down Tottenham Court Road.

Yes, that's a nice pub. If you're going that far I'd also recomend the Museum Tavern, opposite the British Museum: taylor-walker.co.uk/pub/…

There's also a Wetherpsoon just around the corner from the Ship: jdwetherspoon.co.uk/home/…shakespeares-head

That looks wonderful. I love dark wood in pubs. Will check it out!

The Plough , down near the British Museum and the Fitzrovia Belle up the other way toward Warren Street have the best food to my liking. I didn't eat at the Ship Tavern but is definitely one of the most welcoming and friendly boozers I've ever entered. The ship is really Aldwych-Lincolns Inn area but worth the walk or cab.
