One night in London

We are going on a Med cruise that finishes in Dover, England. We have one full day in London as the next day we (2 adults and a 5 year old) are flying out of Heathrow. What is the best area to stay to see the sites where is an easy commute from Dover cruise port to London and then to Heathrow? I would like to stay at a hotel that is next to the transportation station since we have our 5 year old with us?

Consider the Kings Cross area. Fast trains will get you there (well St Pancras which is next door) from Dover in little more than an hour. There is a wide choice of accommodation to suit most pockets and local transport links are excellent. And in the morning the Piccadilly tube line will get you to Heathrow airport in about 60 minutes. Bloomsbury, a little to the south (Russell Square and Holborn serve this neighbourhood and are the next two stations on the Piccadilly line) may also be worth considering,

If you need more help with accommodation then please let us know your budget in pounds, the terminal you are departing and also the time your plane departs Heathrow as that might just affect our advice bearing in mind that you really need to be at the airport two and a half to three hours before your plane departs.
