Where to park a car to enter London with the tube

I'm going to drive from Oxford in the morning and would like to visit London for a day.

I would like to drive to a safe area near a tube station and park the car for the day,

probably going to the center (Piccadilly Circus).

Could you please recommend where to park? It is for Sunday morning.

Thanks,

An

Why not leave the car in Oxford and take the train directly in to London?

The journey is non-stop, and takes just over an hour.

If you go the tube route, you'll pay for parking at a tube station, and a zone 1-6 travelcard, which is £8.90 on a weekend.

Sunday morning you could drive straight into central London using the A40 with no problems, find a single yellow street (loads around marylebone) and job done.

If it's this Sunday (28th April) Hillingdon, which is signposted off the A40.

If a different Sunday, please give the date as engineering work might mean choosing a different station.

Have you thought about getting a bus ( known as the Oxford Tube) it's very straightforward? If not then assuming that the Piccadilly line is running well that day you could park at Hillingon Station and get the train from there. You may need to get a Met line train and change for the Piccadilly at Rayners Lane.

If you're going to drive you might as well drive in as centrally as you can providing you can get in early enough. (Popular spots like Mayfair and Marylebone get pretty full by 11am IME.). There will be others no doubt. If it's just you travelling, I'd be tempted to get the bus, confusingly called the oxford Tube which is very frequent and probably less than the petrol. (Note I haven't checked fares!)

Hillingdon to Piccadilly Circus take 50 minutes, nearly as long as the fast train all the way from Oxford !

If the trip from Hillingdon to Piccadilly Circus take 50 minutes, the best option will be to take the train that arrives in about an hour from Oxford and leave the car.

Thanks for all your useful answers.

Just be aware that Hillingdon to Piccadilly Circus is direct but coming from Oxford you'll go into Paddington, which will add on about 15-20 minutes to your journey time as you'll need to get on the Bakerloo Line.
