You need to tell us something about your interests, objectives and travelling group. I could just say Windsor and Cambridge but I have no idea whether they are best for you.

Please never hurts either.

Windsor - closer, more to see.

Oxford - but that's just my personal preference.

Thanks for the reply. Will be traveling as a single female. Interested in just walking around small towns and soaking up the flavors.

Well, both Windsor and Warwick have large castles. Warwick is more geared to families and the castle hasn't been inhabited for a very long time. Windsor is where the Queen lives much of the time, the castle is very busy and there are nice walks through the Great Park or across the river to Eton. I don't think I would describe either town as small.

Cambridge has more of a small town feel than Oxford, and not quite so many tourists.

Have been to all, my favourites are Windsor and Warwick for the castles, depends on how much time you have. Would imagine Warwick is only an hour from London, Windsor is any easy half hour train ride from London

Windsor and Cambridge, although if you're there in the height of summer you might find that the volume of tourists detracts from any small town feel.
