Visiting Windsor Castle

We are planning to visit Windsor Castle on Tuesday June 5th. We want to take a train to get there before the busses to avoid the crowds. We are planning 3 hours to tour the castle and then have lunch in town and get back to London. My question is if anyone has any tips regarding the visit. I am going to try to purchase tickets online either before we leave the US or when we get there. Do you think this date will be busy? Can anyone provide train information to Windsor? Many thanks for any advice.

Unfortunately arriving when Windsor Castle opens won't help you beat the crowds--that is when the coach tours arrive. They leave a couple hours later, which is a better time to arrive.

Here is how to get there from London on the train:

And info on visiting Windsor:

There are two ways you can save money on a visit to the Castle. One is to buy a combined Castle and rail ticket from Waterloo. This saves £3.10 per adult.

The other is to take advantage of this 2-4-1 offer which includes train fare from Paddington, a guided bike tour, a pub lunch, a tour through Windsor, and entry to the Castle, as well as a ticket back. The cost for this is £69, but as it is 2-4-1, each person would pay only about £7 for the bike tour and pub lunch.

If you are going to be there in the late AM, be sure you position yourself for the changing of the guards so you will be in the front row for viewing and photos. We enjoyed this even more than the Buckingham Palace spectacle. We went to the lower bailey by 10:45AM to be there for the 11AM start (actually they marched in a little earlier) but in June you might be there earlier. They were just feet away from us - marching band and all. They also played a little concert (Star Wars and Star Trek songs!). Be sure to pick up the audioguides which are included, I believe. The AM trains were quite crowded in early May going to Windsor and we were lucky to get seats.
