Where to stay in London in October?

Hi there, my boyfriend and I are coming to England from October 8th-15th (we're 26yrs old). This will be our final stop on a 5 week European trip. We'll be flying into Gatwick airport and out of Heathrow. We're hoping to make an overnight trip to Cambridge (to see friends) and a day trip to Windsor. We've both been to London before and have seen lots of the major sites (Buckingham palace, The Tower of London, Big Ben. St Pauls etc). This time round, we're hoping to take a more relaxed approach to seeing the city - some shopping, going to the theatre, out to dinner or high tea etc. We'll need to stay somewhere we can access trains to Cambridge and Windsor from, but are very happy catching the tube. I'm not really sure what prices are like in London but I think our budget for a hotel will be around £130/night, although if that is unreasonably low, we can stretch it. Since the rest of our trip will be flat out, we're hoping to stay in an nice area with easy tube access, plenty of food options and somewhere we just stroll down the street and soak up the atmosphere. We'd love to stay in a beautiful area with pretty buildings/gardens/cafes. Thanks so much for any advice!

The trains for Windsor and Cambridge leave from different stations across central London so you will be using the buses and tube to get there and get around.

This guest house has appeared in a few recent postings and is in a very good area

Otherwise your price range sounds like a Premier Inn may be one option for you. Have a look at Premier inn County Hall

That area around the PI County Hall is great--we've stayed many times in nearby hotels. Close to both Waterloo and Westminster rail/Tube stations, short walk across bridge to Westminster area and beyond. The walk along the South Bank between Westminster and Waterloo Bridges is a nice one and, in good weather, features lots of street entertainment. Once at Waterloo Bridge you can go up some stairs to street level, walk across the bridge, cross The Strand and walk up the hill to Covent Garden. Or you can continue along the river--nice sights, some nice pubs. Great access to London Eye for a ride anytime, especially on a clear evening if you want to see London after dark.

"going to the theatre, out to dinner or high tea etc."

I think that you probably mean afternoon tea:

Also consider the Premier Inn Waterloo (Westminster Bridge). Newer hotel in the same area as the Premier Inn County Hall.

Bloomsbury is a nice area and this one should come in on budget.

To travel to Cambridge, you will need to use King's Cross or Liverpool Street Station.

To travel to Windsor, you would use either Paddington, or Waterloo.

There is a 2-4-1 offer for Windsor that you might want to take a look at...

If you wanted to take advantage of that, you would need to get Travelcards.
