Time in UK, London on tubes, trains

I'm after suggestions on the best type of rail pass to buy on rail for one-way trip from Cornwall to London, one-way -London to Southend, plus tube travel for 4 days in London.

We will also be spending 2 days in Edinburgh. This is a trip duration of 9 days.

Many thanks

If you know all of your journey details in advance then the cheapest option will be to buy advance single tickets for each journey.

For the tube get an oyster card.

Why do people automatically think 'pass' for long-distance train travel?

Put it this way, if your were looking at flights Cornwall - London and London - Edinburgh, you would decide when you were going to make the journey and then book in advance to get the best price. That's exactly what you should do for long-distance trains. You should only buy a pass if you think you are going to make long-distance train trips on a whim - it is the gold-plated option price-wise!

Bookings for UK trains open 8-12 weeks before departure date - look specifically for 'Advance' fares.

For Cornwall - London, book at www.firstgreatwestern.co.uk

For London-Edinburgh, book at www.eastcoast.co.uk

For your travel in London buy Travelcards - have a look at this article about the 2FOR1 offers which might save you some money at visitor attractions.

London-Southend, buy on the day.
