Hop on hop off tour

Hi I am arriving to Heathrow on a Thursday at 6:30 am, will be taking the tube to Victoria Station to pick up our travel cards, then to the bayswaters area. Will I have enough time to pick up the H.O.H.O bus tour before its last stop at 11:45? Should I get the 24 hour ticket? Is this the best way to get acclimated to the city?

Others can best answer about the timing, but I found the HOHO bus to be a great way to get one's bearings and to spot places you might want to visit that you may not have been previously aware.

I'm not sure what you mean by "before it's last stop at 11:45". We arrived a little later than that and got on the HoHo bus at 2:30. It was good for 24 hours and included a river cruise. We did the bus tour on the arrival day which was a great way to get acclimating and not have to walk too much. On the next day we did the River Cruise before 2:30. I would recommend it. We did the Original Tour but I'm sure the other one is similar.

Hop on hop off buses run throughout the day until about 1800 - 1900. With an arrival at Heathrow at 0630 you may face queues at passport control; depending on the airline with which you've booked you may have a 10 minute walk from Arrivals to the Underground station as well.

You will also, at about 0800, travel to the city with a very great many commuters. You may want to linger at the airport a while unless you fancy sharing a car with very little room to spare.

After having bought paper Travelcards, presumably for the two for one offers, where in Bayswater is your destination? You might be better off taking the bus from Victoria than the Underground to that destination. The 390 from Bayswater Road to Marble Arch will drop you near the stops in Park Lane for the hop on hop off buses.

Let us know more about your visit, including how long you'll stay in London.

Give yourself a break,by the time you get into london, you'll need a rest,do it the next day.HOHO is not cheap, but it is a good way of seeing a lot of the town, and you can go back under your own steam if you want to visit places like Tower of London etc.Just a tip, don't waste your money on Madam Tussauds.

We are staying at the Best Western Pheonix. The hop on bus at Bayswater picks up only until 11:45am. We were told to stay awake and keep busy when we get there to adjust to the time change.

We caught the HOHO around that time in Picadilly. We stayed on for about 3 hours and it was a nice relaxing time. We made a mental list of what we wanted to spend more time at, and went back to Buckingham palace and then stopped to shop and grabbed a bite to eat. We made it back to Paris by 11pm.

Kristen, the 148 from Bayswater Road, maybe five minutes' walk from Kensington Garden Square, will take you to Marble Arch. tfl.gov.uk/gettingaround/maps/buses/pdf/bays…

The hop on hop off buses call near stop W. tfl.gov.uk/gettingaround/…marblearch-a4.pdf There are ticket kiosks nearby and may be company reps there as well to answer questions and sell tickets.

If you want to try to catch the bus near Bayswater that's fine, but you need not limit yourselves to one stop or pick up point.

Kristen,

>> The hop on bus at Bayswater picks up only until 11:45am. <<

Are you referring to the feeder or "connector" services that you take to a main HOHO point? On the Original Tour they're called "capital connector". You don't need to take that; you'll have your travelcards on hand and can take the regular bus (the 148 as TP says) to the main tour point at Marble Arch. They run all day. So you're not restricted to before 11.45.

>> We were told to stay awake and keep busy when we get there to adjust to the time change.<<

Totally agree with that. To "rest" would be a big mistake and mess you up for a further day or so. In fact the open air HOHO with fresh air is a pretty good thing to do that day.
