UK Rails Tickets - Validity when you miss your train?

Hi,

This is regarding tickets on UK Rail, example - Slough to Bath etc. There are trains every 30-60 min. If tickets are purchased in advance for a specific train say 9:30 AM and the passenger misses that train. Can the same ticket be used for next available train b/w the same destination points?

Thanks,

GxR

If you buy an 'advance' single ticket and you miss the train you have to buy another ticket - no allowance made

If you buy, in advance, an anytime, off peak or super off peak ticket then you can use a later train without penalty. \Provided if relevant that it's an off peak, etc, train

If you buy an advance ticket and miss the train and time you bought it for then you'll have to buy a new dearer ticket at the station.

Only partly true. If the delay is due to a delay on another train (not the Tube though) you are entitled to take th next available train.

Bear in mind that if you miss your booked train due to non train delay reasons the costs of a walk up fare can be substantial. Therefore, if booking an advanced single ticket its worth allowing yourself extra time to arrive on time at the station.

Got it. So, if there is chance of missing a train, it's better to buy a ticket at the station instead of advance.

You can still buy an "anytime" ticket in advance. No need to wait until the day of travel

Not necessarily - you can buy 'normal' tickets in advance if it helps and they have flexible validity.
