Take the exorbitant US levels and divide by four. Over-tipping doesn't gain friendship or respect (but people will take it if you want to throw your money away)

Give what you want to

It's your holiday

It's your money

Many places charge 12.5% service charge on what is already a very expensive experience

So add whatever you want, add as much as makes you feel good about yourself

Why perpetuate the master/servant relationship

Many restaurants don't pass on the service charge

The service charge is discretionary

The waiters don't pay tax on their tips, but many do

Tipping keeps wages in hospitality low

If the service us exceptional then always tip

Why tip for someone just bringing you a plate

We don't tip shop assistants why tip waiters

We tip just to stop us feeling guilty

Round up to nearest pound for cab drivers

Tip concierge for getting you those impossible to get hot tickets

Tip the maid every day

----------------

There

That must have saved at least a dozen posts.

Seriously do what you feel at the time

Briefly, 10 percent approx in restaurants unless service is already on the bill. In other situations people may accept a tip ( or may refuse it) but will not expect it.
