Oyster Card - to buy in advance or?

Hi! I'm confused about the oyster card and visitor oyster card. What is the difference and should I buy in advance? Many thanks if someone can explain.

Do not buy online. Cards bought online have a non-refundable deposit and you can only add pay-as-you-go funds. You can't add weekly cards.

It takes very little time to buy when you arrive. You pay a card deposit but this is refunded if you surrender the card at the end of your trip. You can add weekly plus pay-as-you-go money and you can also keep the card for future visits.

> "non-refundable deposit"

This is another bugbear of mine. Some people hate the English language! If it's non-refundable it's not a deposit, it's a fee. I hate it when companies do that.
