London Budget Accommodation for solo traveller

Looking for somewhere to stay over for 2 or 3 nights. Can arrive by train at Paddington or coach at Victoria Bus Station.

I'm planning to visit/walk the area around The Mall, Birdcage Walk area and visit one gallery or museum nearby.

I prefer impersonal but really trying to do this a cheaply as possible. Just somewhere quiet and safe to rest with some food nearby. What areas should I be looking at? I don't mind a bit of a journey in for each day if this helps.

I have searched the forum and read the TQ but they seem to apply to large families so Prem Inn etc tend to be £120+ per night. I have asked similar before but when the search engin went down I lost the link.

Given what you want to see Victoria would be better. There are several budget hotels/b+b's in the area. The Lime Tree, b&b Belgravia get good mentions or somewhere on TexScott's list:

I think there's even an easyhotel (rather orange). Very small rooms, but clean and usually around £40/night.

Try the Wardonia on Argyle Street which is opposite St Pancras station:

I stayed there for 1 night and the rooms are small, but it's okay if you plan on spending most of your time out sight seeing, and each room is ensuite with TV and free WiFi.

The Cherry Court near Victoria Station is a good budget choice.

Thanks for the selection. I'll have a look through. Never been to Victoria so am completely clueless there.

Seemed to be hard to find one of the chains at a reasonable price. Seems they've got a popular following & prices to match.

The family run Rhodes in Sussex Gardens (five minutes walk from Paddington) and the B&B Belgravia are two well worth considering.

You mention visiting just one museum or gallery whilst in London but do keep in mind that museums and galleries are free in London so you can visit as many as you want, only special exhibitions charge an entrance fee so you should just avoid these.
