London Connections--British Airways

We will be arriving at LHR from PHX (Terminal 5)--connecting flight to Bucharest (Terminal 3) with a 5 hour layover. Since we will be leaving Bucharest the next day on a tour, we planned to take carry on luggage to avoid the chance of our luggage being delayed.

Question--Anyone aware of any issues with British Airways if we each have a 22 inch bag plus a personal bag? The 22 inch bag fits in the overhead and the smaller bag under the seat.

We also will be flying through LHR 10 days later and spending the night at the Ibis on Bath Road. Question--Is the Hoppa bus the best option to get to the Ibis from Terminal 5 or should we take a cab? If so, do they take credit cards or do we need GBP? Since it will only be a short stay, we didn't want to convert money if we didn't need to.

Thanks for your help.

There are free buses almost to the hotel door from Heathrow Central Bus Station. Take numbers 555, 111, 140 or 105 towards Harlington Corner bus stop, a 1 minute walk from the hotel. Avoid the hoppa and cabs.

The bus stop is right by 'Airport Bowl'

No problems with that baggage. Follow signs for flight connections when you land.

Who are you flying with on the Heathrow to Bucharest leg, BA flights to Bucharest leave from T5.

Post 3 is incorrect. BA flights to Bucharest DO depart from T3.

Actually the OP will have to let us know their dates or check with the airline as, according to the Heathrow website, flights to Bucharest are switching to T5 from October 27th.

The other airline that flies there is Tarom and they use T4.

If you've booked to fly from PHX to OTP in World Traveller / Euro Traveller then bear in mind that overhead locker space will be at a premium in both cabins.

If you have five hours between arrival of BA288 and your flight to Bucharest and if you will fly after the 27th of this month, that's more than enough time for a T5 to T5 connection; it's a generous amount of time for T5 to T3 if you're flying in the next two weeks.

If you're booked with Tarom, that's another matter.

Thanks to everyone for the info. We get to LHR on 10/25 so we won't be lucky enough to stay in T5 for our connecting flight but at least we have enough time to get to T3.

I'm assuming these are all on one ticket (i.e. you have the same reference number for both flights).

In which case, on the outward journey you follow the signs for 'Flight Connections' so that you bypass UK immigration and the usual security lines. When you check in at PHX you should be given boarding cards for both flights, and BA will check your luggage through as well so you needn't worry about being carry-on only. A free shuttle bus will take you to Terminal 3, you go through a quick security check (the 100ml liquids rule holds here) then you go through to departures and wait until your gate is posted. If you need to see a BA rep at Terminal 3 for any reason you do so after security; they will have a desk there.

The Minimum connecting time for this transfer is 90 minutes, so 5 hours is more than adequate.

Here's the process:
