It will be a nightmare. Oh well, I'll just have to take the day off.

Shouldn't the Tour de France be taking place in France, I mean isn't the clue in the name?

Didn't the Tour go through the channel tunnel once? Shortly before they put the train tracks in. The Tour has been over here several times.

It was announced a long, long time ago that the Tour de France was to have a stage in the UK (and not for the first time either), so why are you acting so shocked about it? And what's the difference between this and the London Marathon or any other major event that needs a few streets closed? Nothing. This will be good for London, just like the Olympics and Paralympics were (people moaned about them to before they happened), and bring pleasure to a lot of people.

What a bunch of old moaners you are.

The TdF always has one stage outside of France !

This is on a Monday and isn't due to arrive at The Mall until early afternoon. I will be doing the route from Chelmsford the day before. Might take me a bit longer than the 2 hours the race will take.

"The TdF always has one stage outside of France !"

So shouldn't we force Les Grenouilles to have one Test Match every year, then?

They wouldn't agree of course. Too insular for one thing. And there's no chance they'd win our national sport the way we've (well: people with British passports) taken to winning theirs.

But shouldn't we picket this grotesque French imperialism with posters saying "Allez chez vous, frogs"?

Well if you don't want the TdF in the UK, there is always the Tour of Britain on 7 -14 September 2014 or the RideLondon on 9-10 August.

No reason now to come to the UK and miss a cycling event.
