Let's talk boots in December...

Hello everyone!

I will be lucky enough to spend the week of Christmas and Boxing Day in lovely London and was just wondering what kind of boots to bring. I've heard from others that it can be icy/slushy and at the very least, quite chilly and wet. Is it sufficient to bring along a pair of waterproof leather boots or should I bring a warmer pair (such as a pair of uggs with more traction on the bottom)? Part of me abhors the idea of lugging around two pairs of boots on my trip, but the other part of me would rather bring a pair I know I'll be comfortable in than shell out a ton of money purchasing a pair while I'm there.

Your wisdom and experience are much appreciate. Thank you for your help!

Cheers,

Cathy

I am now of an age where fitting in is no longer an issue, once you have lived well over half a century nobody notices what you wear anyway, so I tend to wear multi-coloured wellies and rather a lot of purple.

I'd hazard a guess that a lightweight, waterproof pair of ankle length boots or trainers would be fine.

Hmm, well it appears that Uggs have earned themselves quite a negative reputation across the puddle! It's interesting, in both London and Paris forums, it seems there is a resounding "No!" when asked if Uggs are fashionable or appropriate.

The problem with ugg boots over here is that they tend to be worn by teenage girls. In any shopping centre you'll see herds of them, all scuffling about in knock off ugg boots, with the soles all misshapen and it's given them a downmarket image.

I can just imagine what Parisian women would have to say about them. Wearing them is probably a hanging offence over there! In London, nobody will really care what you're wearing, but I'm just pointing out what their image has become here and nobody will bat an eyelid if you walk about in moon boots, dressed as Batman, as long as you don't jump queues, or block the escalators on the tube. :)

We were in London last December and it was very cold at times, but runners or leather boots with thermal socks did the trick. The main thing was comfort, London was our first stop on a six week holiday and by day 2 my feet were throbbing with overuse when I went to bed! They improved with time, but I was always amused by the tourists we saw wondering around with high heeled boots on!
