Few Hours sight-seeing in London.

Hi,

Only in London part of 1 day. Getting into Gatwick at mid-day and staying close to Pancras Eurostar station.

We would like to " do " The Shard , and the " Emirates Skyline " trip across The Thames. Is it most sensible

to get train into the city and do our sightseeing before travelling by tube to Pancras later in order to get the

best value of our few hours ? What I mean is would it be wasting precious time travelling to Pancras simply

to check-in to our hotel before the sight-seeing? We will only have back-packs - travelling light !

Thanks in advance for any/all advice/suggestions.

Regards,

Bigireland.

Personally I wouldn't bother with the cable car. The only views you get are of the docklands (Canary Wharf, etc) and the Thames Barrier. You can't see any of the more famous buildings, St Paul's, the Houses of Parliament, etc, from it. It also has a habit of being closed because of wind so definitely check that it is running before going out there. Having said all that, it is quite fun.

You could do the Shard straight away, it is right next to London Bridge station (most days you can get a direct train from Gatwick to London Bridge), though you'd need to check their bag policy. If you want to do the cable car, you could then get the tube to North Greenwich (Jubilee line from London Bridge). You could then get the DLR from Royal Victoria (near the north cable car station) to West Ham and change to the Hammersmith & City line to King's Cross/St Pancras.

If the weather is bad neither the cable car or the Shard will be that great, so that's something to keep in mind.

Hi eb13saint,

Thank you for that information. We've actually never seen The Thames Barrier so now its on the list - hopefully from the sky !

Just read about it and its only open to visitors Thursdays to Sundays. We're there on a Monday - just our luck ! We might

make it next time. Ta too for tube info.

Regards,

Bigireland.
