In addition to Charlie there is another Roald Dahl adaptation, Matilda. Also War Horse and Emil and the Detectives. When are you visiting?

I forgot the Lion King.

IMO, 9 and 6 might be a little young for War Horse. I think my daughter was 11 the first time she saw it and she liked it then, but it's not really designed for kids.

Either the shows that have been suggested.

Otherwise, London has a number of theatres specifically aimed at chikdren, if you're so interested.

I wouldn't take a 6 year old to War Horse. Lion King, Charlie, Matilda should all work.

Have they been to plays at home? My kids were great at the age of 6 but for some kids it is a long time to sit and be still during a performance. We saw Matlida in Nov and loved it but my kids are tween and teen.

The crowd was full of young kids but I know for some (at least the kids in front of us) they had a hard time watching the entire play)

If they have not been to plays at home you might want to take them first to see how they do.

Enjoy your trip!

PS I forgot to mention when my son was three he first saw Lion King. It was great because he knew the story and he was able to follow along. I realize 6 is double that age so I would think other plays would work for them.

I took my then 6 year old to Matilda and he was fine, there's a lot going on and although some of it undoubtedly went over his head (literally at times), overall he really enjoyed it and remembered it afterwards. As you say, it does depend on the child.

Another vote for The Lion King and do try for an aisle seat.

Thanks everyone. We are coming in July 2014. Yes, the kids should be pretty good sitting still for plays. We have gone to several things here in San Francisco.

I would be interested in theaters specifically for kids as well- thanks for that suggestion.

also, I heard that Newsies MIGHT be coming to London in 2014 but I can't find any information online about WHEN in 2014 it might come there- if you have any info on that it would be much appreciated.

Thanks so much!

There were rumours of a spring opening, but both the theatres mentioned appear to have other productions over the next few months. So nothing definite that I can find, and certainly no tickets for sale at the moment.
