Train tickets needed for 2 for 1 London

We will fly into London, then leave by train the next day for another city, returning to London a few days later. The info I read about the 2 for 1 offers says the offers are good anytime between the train trip INTO London and the train trip LEAVING London. Since our travel will be in reverse order, are the 2 for 1 London offers valid for us to use earlier during the day that we will be LEAVING London, and then again later on the day that we return TO London? I appreciate any help you can give me on this.

Yes, note that there are 2 variants to take advantage of this, the 1 day travelcard and the 7 day travelcard. I'd suggest that the latter is probably not good value if you're not going to be in London for a few days - you can't suspend your travelcard whilst you're not in the city. The 7 days are continuous so there'd be a period you'd have paid for but won't be able to use (because you won't be in London)

According to the Days Out website, you must have a ticket TO or WITHIN London on the day you wish to use the offers. So I suspect that the tickets leaving London will not entitle you to the discount. Whether they will enforce this at the attraction, I don't know. They always checked our tickets, but I don't know exactly what they looked for.

The tickets will of course be valid for 2-for-1s in the 'other city'; check the website for participating attractions (and remember to keep the Out tickets with you - don't put them in the ticket barrier - to establish the period of validity)
