Football friendlies

Just curious as to when the schedule of friendlies are announced for August 2014. Thinking of travelling to London in August, and wanted to take the family to a football match. I know that the season will not have started while we would be there. Also i would want to take them to a family friendly atmosphere, I have heard that Fulham, Chelsea, and Arsenal would be fine. True? False?

Pre-season friendlies aren't announced until between late June and mid July. The big Premier league teams usually do overseas tours pre-season.

However the Championship and Leagues 1 and 2 start their season on August 9th, so there will be some good matches to see, just not Premier League.

You would be better off seeing a competitive match in the Championship (effectively the second tier but a slightly higher standard overall than the MLS with passionate crowds) than a lacklustre friendly between 2 teams having a gentle run-out in a friendly where no-one wants to get hurt and no-one cares about the result.

The Premier League season proper kicks off on 16 August 2014.

Wait till nearer the time to find out the schedule for your dates.

All the teams you mention would be fine to go to if you can get tickets (as are all teams in the Premier League), but relegation from the Premier League means it may be a few months before we find out whether Fulham (currently bottom of the Premier League) will still be in it next season.

If you go to a pre-season friendly then they usually have a family friendly atmosphere, tickets are cheaper and it is a good way to see some of the big clubs who will be sold out during the regualr season.

Every year Arsenal play a tournament called the Emirates Cup, this features 4 of the worlds top clubs and takes place over two days so you should get ticekts if you are prompt.

>they normally have a family freindly atmosphere<

This would of course depend on who's playing who, some freindly games have seen violence in the past with hooligans, particularly when over seas european teams play in london.

Hence the word "normally".
