How to get from Heathrow to Premier Inn Blackfriars

Hi all- my boyfriend and I are travelling to London for the first time next week (very excited!)

We fly into Heathrow on Feb 13 at 11:30am. We are staying at the Premier Inn Blackfriars.

Wondered if anyone could tell me or have tips on how we get from the airport to our hotel via the tube??

Thanks very much!

You can use the journey planner at www.tfl.gov.uk or if you ask us nicely then we will tell you to take the Piccadilly line from the airport as far as Hammersmith then cross the platform to take any District line service as far as Blackfriars from where you hotel is just a short walk. Simples.

"We fly into Heathrow on Feb 13 at 11:30am"

Problem is that's next Thursday, a tube strike day (unless it gets called off). The strike was on today as well, with a skeleton Piccadilly and District line service, but Blackfriars tube station was closed.

You may want to look at alternative options, such as a pre-booked car service - tripadvisor.com/ShowTopic-g186338-i17-k48869…

Although Blackfriers was closed today,Embankment and Cannon Street were both open. Are they close enough to final destination?

Should Blackfriars be closed next week, Cannon Street would be the better of the two District line stations to use, although Mansion House is nearer than Cannon Street. Temple is also an option, although (like the others) there are stairs up from train platform to ticket hall and street level, and the walk along Arundel Street to Fleet Street is also up a slight incline.

If the Piccadilly line will be running through London on your arrival date, alyssa, or even terminating at King's Cross then take the train to that station (no change needed) and from stop D tfl.gov.uk/gettingaround/maps/buses/pdf/king… take either the 45 towards Clapham Park or 63 towards Honor Oak.

Alight in Farringdon Street at Fleet Street for City Thameslink, which is on the nearside of Ludgate Circus. tfl.gov.uk/gettingaround/maps/buses/pdf/blac… Cross Farringdon Street and to the far side of Ludgate Circus. Near the bus stop for Shoe Lane you will see Salisbury Court to your left - turn there and it becomes Dorset Rise.

It's a 20 minute walk from each of those stations.

The problem is we don't know (a) whether or not the second strike will go ahead (though this week it's on), and (b) what level of service would be running. This week the Piccadilly line is running nowhere near Kings Cross St. Pancras. And if you leave it too late to book a car on the off chance the strike is called off those car services may be fully booked.

Those of us that know London well may be prepared to chance it, armed with plans B and C, knowledge of the national rail lines from Feltham, Waterloo East and the FCC from London Bridge, plus a bus spider map of Waterloo as backup. But I wouldn't be recommending that to a first time visitor.
