From London to Stratford

Hi!

Can someone give me some insight as to the easiest way to get from London to Stratford Upon Avon? Also, how much time should we plan to spend there? Thanks!

Patti: You can take the train to Stratford; check out the times at www.nationalrail.co.uk; do note that some journeys require changes and take longer than others.

Take a look at http://www.stratford-upon-avon.co.uk/ to get an idea of what you might like to see and do. Stratford is a huge tourist destination so time spent sightseeing there may depend on how well you can stand large crowds and tour buses clogging the streets.

What you might consider doing is combining with Warwick/Leamington Spa.

Leamington has the direct trains from Marylebone. If you based yourself there for a day or two you could easily take the day trip to Stratford by bus or train.

Would only say you'd have to stay in Stratford if you wanted to do the theatre.

Warwick also has the castle which is good to tour though form posts on here the cafe is a bit poor so maybe pack a sandwich!

And depending on the season you might find the accomodation a bit cheaper too.

We drove up since we had a car and are a family of six...more economical for us. It took us about two hours (I think) with traffic getting out of London, but this was also our first experience driving on the left side of the road so that took some time to get used to. Had a great day...lunch at Hathaway's Tea House, and took a boat out on the river. Never did see any Shakespeare sights, but my daughters were pretty museum-ed out by then so it was nice just to excape the city for a day. Poured rain on us while in the boat....and while it was no fun then, it is one of our more talked about memories now!
