Its called the channel tunnel. void the school holidays and it is fine. The queue times are not bad as you will have a timed ticket.

Eurotunnel from Folkestone to Calais. Is it a hire (rental) car? If so, is it alright to take it?

The weekend - Friday evening onwards - is busy but you will book in advance and the queues move on pretty quickly.

The French driving laws demand that you redirect your lights and carry such things as high-vis jacket, breathaliser and so forth. Are you prepared?

You realise that the steering wheel will be on the wrong side.

Some rental car agreements prohibit taking their vehicles abroad. If it is a hire car you have, check your contract carefully.

We go to France quite often, Sometimes on Eurotunnel and sometimes on the ferry. As already stated, if you are thinking of taking a UK hire car you need to check if you can do this, Also, if you are taking a UK car you need alcohol testers, high viz jackets, stickers to divert lights, red triangle and light bulbs. It might be easier to hire a car in France.

You do NOT need to carry breathalysers.

That law went by the wayside last year.

>>> It might be easier to hire a car in France. <<<

And if you are starting out from London or Kent, it might be easier simply to take a direct Eurostar train from London St Pancras International, Ebbsfleet International or Ashford International to Calais-Fréthun, Lille-Europe or Paris-Gare du Nord. And from Lille and Paris there are also high-speed trains to numerous other destinations in France.

You refer to a 'tunnel for cars'. You do realise do you, that you cannot drive your car through the tunnel. You and your car go through the tunnel on a train.

#7 is not strictly true. The law remains BUT there is no fine for non compliance!
