'Also close to rail station.' Within the bounds of the Circle line (lariat notwithstanding) there are more than 40 Underground stations and a dozen rail stations. Booking a hotel near a station will not be an issue, unless you have a specific destination from London in mind and want to stay near the station of departure.
As well as a budget in pounds, let us know how many is 'we'; if there are children in your party let us know if any of them are under age 15.
I stayed at the Premier Inn in Leichester Square and thought it was very central allowing me to walk any where easily. It was moderately priced, clean and very quiet but right out the door was the hustle of London!
