Park and Tube/Train for London marathon

I am traveling by car from Devon( A303) to support friends running the marathon.

Can anyone tell me where we could park car and make remainder of journey in by train/tube to spectate?

Bearing in mind that there will likely be thousands of others doing likewise, so make an early start.

Look at Richmond (District line and National Rail), Hounslow West and Osterley (both Piccadilly line). Richmond can be pre-booked, which could be useful for this day.

Woking (A303 + M3)? That's just ouside the M25 if you want to avoid *any* London driving. How close to you want to get in before switching to rail?

Friends regularly stand at mile marker 22, so you can see your friends on the other side of the road (about mile 6) and when they loop back at 22.

Shadwell station is where you'll need to get to access this.

We were on a train arriving into Waterloo about 8.30 am on the Woking line and had to stand the entire way due to the numbers of passengers.
