Holiday inn kensington forum or hilton hotel kensington

hi, i am on my final stretch of planning for my london trip this april. im left with two choices of hotel: holiday inn kensington forum near gloucester station or the hilton hotel kensington near shepherds bush station. both are near to the mrt,. taking into consideration the following: safe area, near restaurants, not secluded or dimly lit area, popular stores or shops nearby, which among the two hotels would you guys recommend?

at the same time, i also plan to take the bus. which among the hotels have very accessible bus routes to the popular places or sights in london.

thanks

If you are flying into Heathrow, then the Kensington Forum is much easier to get to as it is next to Gloucester Road Underground.

All in all Kensington Forum is much better than the Hilton Kensington in terms of the logistics of getting around, being next to the Undeground rather than a short walk with a larger choice of lines and all the hoho buses main lines at Gloucester Road.

The area around the Kensington Forum is full of hotels so the area is geared up to tourists needs as well as locals. There are also 2 large supermarkets on your doorstep as well as the convenience stores, coffe shops, banks, etc

The Kensington Hilton is about the only hotel in the immediate area and is in no-man's land between the well to do Holland Park going east and the slightly "edgy" feel of Shepherds Bush.

There is little in the immediate vicinity in terms of shops, services compared to Gloucester Road

"edgy" feel of Shepherds Bush translating in my mind into the "knife edgy" feel of Shepherds Bush....good advice above, go for the one near Gloucester Road and avoid Fort Apache The Bronx type areas

Thank you for the reply handfordr and jeremymangu! We are gonna be coming from France via train. Is the train station near HI Kensington? Since we will be pulling big liuggages, we prefer the taxi. How far is it from the train station and approximately how much?

If we prefer to take the bus to go around the city, are there bus stops near Holiday Inn Kensington? Thanks

Having stayed for months at the HI Kensington Forum I will just give you a heads up. There are/were flyers for "escorts" littering the surrounding streets like I've not seen anywhere else in the UK. There were no women plying their trade on the street and the area is nice, safe etc. I simply want expecting the volume of flyers! Other things: I wouldn't recommend the hotel restaurant personally, it's a fairly nice walk to Hyde park from there past Imperial College and the museums etc and finally enjoy your stay

The so called 'knife edgy' Shepards Bush is slightly over the top, the Hilton is on Holland park Avenue (about 200-300 yards from Simon Cowll and Richard Brandon's homes), so not that bad. It's only if you venture west over shepards bush green which is beyond a busy roundabout and out of sight from the hotel, that it could feel edgy after dark. Holland park tube is a nicer walk and only 7 or 8 minutes away.

As mentioned, the forum is better located for eating out etc but I don't think the hotel is as nice, so if location is more important to you than hotel, I'd go for this one.

Ther eis nothing wrong with the HI Kensington Forum. I can't compare it to the Hilton as I've never stayed in the latter, but the area around the Forum is good for eating out, transport links, shops and bars. I've stayed in various hotels around Gloucester Road over theyears and I love that area.

There ar eplenty of bus stops around the hotel, but if you take a taxi from St Pancras, then bear in mind you do have to cross a fair bit of central London to get to Gloucester Road.

Ouch that's a long taxi ride from St Pancras! Are you absolutely forced to take that area / either of those hotels?

I've stayed at the Kensington Forum which is how I know it's a long ride from St Pancras but I wouldn't choose to do it again bearing length of journey and cost ,but hotel was OK , bus stop almost on the doorstep..

I would definitely opt for the Gloucester Road location. There are several other hotels in the vicinity, some a lot nicer than the Forum so if you havent booked, worth checking.

Unless you have mobility problems tube (Piccadilly line) will be a lot cheaper than a cab. There is one flight of stairs and lift rest of the way at Gloucester Road.

Btw, is it easy to catch a taxi from the London train station that would take me to HI? Approx how much? Would the drivers rip me off considering that they know we are tourists? Thanks
