area with many restaurants and pubs?

I've been here for a few days now and am loving London! I'm staying at the Qbic hotel near Aldgate East, so my partner and I have explored Spitalfields, the City, Shoreditch, Islington, and today we had lunch in Clerkenwell. We have no particular plans for dinner tonight but want to explore a new area - where should we head? Hopefully somewhere with reasonably priced restaurants and pubs.

Thanks!!

A bit expensive, but the Punch & Judy pub in Covent Garden perhaps.

Buy a drink and go onto the balcony and watch the street entertainers who perform in the area below in front of the church (sorry, forgotten it's name!).
