Not knowing the number of people and your budget makes it a bit tough. Also, that's a pretty big swath of London between Earl's Court and Covent Garden...

All that said, I have two favorites in Kensington: the Millennium Bailey's hotel right at the Gloucester Rd. tube stop, and the Nadler (formerly Base2Stay), which is a short walk from the Earl's Court tube station. Both are easy to get to by tube from Heathrow on the Piccadilly line. Very easy access from either to the whole rest of London, and prices are as close to "reasonable" as you'll find for such an expensive city.

There is an Easyhotel and a Premier Inn on Cromwell Road near Earls Court station. This is if you want cheap as chips.
