Directions to Wimbledon Tennis Center

If we are staying near King's Cross station and taking the tube, is there a direct line to Wimbledon grounds? If not where should we stay in central London? and how long is the trip? Thank you.

From KX take the Piccadilly line to Earl's Court. Alight there and change to a District line train towards Wimbledon. Alight at Southfields and take the 493 towards Tooting. …tfl.gov.uk/gettingaround/maps/buses/pdf/sou… It stops directly across the road from the entrance to the AELTC.

It's not direct on the tube but millions of people (literally) manage to change tubes every day. Small children and people who don't speak or read English can do it. The tube is hard to explain but very easy to use and you will have no problems getting to Wimbledon from wherever. To move hotels to avoid a 2 minute walk in a train station seems extreme.

Thank you for your information. We used the tube before so there is no problem of changing lines. But we would like to arrive at Wimbledon around 5 am or 6 am to queue for the tickets. Is the tube running that early? Or should we use another transportation mode?

Take a tent and camp. It's quite nice if it's dry (a big "if", but the queue is shorter in the rain). Watch out for Wombles.

Please note that during The Championships, the #493 bus is diverted away from Church Road (where the grounds are).

You'll either have to walk from Southfields Station (the closest), or there is a shuttle service from Wimbledon Station.

Check www.nationalrail.co.uk to see what is the earliest train from London Waterloo to Wimbledon. Not sure what time the shuttle buses start in the morning. But you can walk to the grounds - it takes about 20 minutes.

Totally agree with Akkarin. We live very near Wimbledon and the queue is not only the best way to ensure you get a ticket (not sure if you could be sure of getting in unless you do camp!) but it is also well organised, clean and safe and really good fun. People are very friendly and there are usually impromptu games of tennis, cricket etc in the park where the queue is based.

Tube may not be running at 5am but should be by 6am. If you really want to stay in a hotel I'd look in Wimbledon town centre for somewhere so you can easily get to the queue extra early. Bring sun cream/ a hat if its hot as the park is exposed, and definitely something to read, although there are shops near the park.

Thank you all for your advice. We are looking to stay near Earl's Court station. Do you recommend any clean budget hotel around there?

There are a few on this list - https:/…

Prices could be raised with Wimbledon on and the better options could also be full even at this stage. Do check reviews carefully - there are some pretty grotty places and it can be hard to tell a decent place from a not so nice ones by the website pictures.

We are hoping to get the first tube to Southfields on the first Monday of Wimbledon and join the queue. Is it quicker to walk than hang around hoping for a bus, we're fast walkers and want to get in the queue as quickly as possible!
