Richmond to Hampton Court by bike?

Myself and an old school friend will be in London late August for a Kate Bush concert (so so excited!!) and would like to visit Hampton Court. We would like to have a bit of exercise in the process, and see a bit of the countryside, so we hope to hire a bike in Richmond and cycle to Hampton Court. Has anyone else done this, and if so, can you offer any advice/tips/recommendations? We are on a budget as we are travelling from overseas to begin with. We will be staying in Hammersmith.

You can cycle along the river. Easy peasy.

You're not going to see any countryside though as both Richmond and HCP are within the boundaries of Greater London.

This is one option (although I know its not the cheapest), but check out the cost of cycle hire before you dismiss it: mindthegaptours.com/hamptoncourtbybike/tour

As I thought, one of our regular posters, Inge, has taken a tour provided by this company. You could also send her a PM to ask questions. Otherwise, the link has other information about cycling in the area: tripadvisor.co.uk/ShowTopic-g186338-i17-k551…

I have walked the area many times (I have a Bike too!).

No problem Cycling all the way along the River, you will need to take the South bank as far as Kingston and then change to the North Bank over Kingston Bridge.

You can hire Bikes from Richmond Bridge for £25 per Day or £21 from the Station.

There is lots of Greenery along to Route in fact.

FYI the Mind the Gap tours qualify for the 2 for 1 promotion, making it L34.50 each, including entry to HCP.

I did the mind the gap tour and loved it. You cycle along a nice path, stop reguarly to hear about the surroundings, stop at a nursery where you can have cake and later stop at a pub for a drink, and you arrive at Hampton Court around lunchtime. The price includes the tour, bikehire(they have helmets if needed), travelcard to get from London to Richmond and from HCP to London(after the tour you are free to explore HCP by yourself & make your own way back) and entry to HCP itself
