Hop on Hop off Buses

Hey guys

Have found a few articles about this but i have more questions about Hop on Hop off Buses in London.

So i will be coming over for a few days in July -- my first time in London and my first time travelling by myself.. (eeeekkkk!!!)

Im guessing the buses are hop on and hop off as the names suggests and you just need to wait at certain bus stops to get back on?

Should i worry about getting lost - if i go to an attraction and cant find the bus stop or if i wander too long and miss the last bus... and then how do i get back to my hotel

(see im hopeless!)

Any tips of advice.

I want to cramp in as much as possible in 3 days :)

Usually i just go along with guides tours.. or my husband navigates im hopeless with direction...

If your intent is to view sights then you may wish to consider what you wish to see and create your own route using London's red buses. They are as prone to waiting in traffic as the tour buses but there are far more of them, they cover considerably more of London than the tour buses, and along some routes you will have a choice of buses which could help speed the journey if necessary. Also, using London transport will cost considerably less than hop on hop off tickets.

For example: from the Aldwych you may take the 11 or 87 to Westminster, walk across Westminster Bridge and take the RV1 or 381 to the south end of Tower Bridge and walk across it to the Tower: https:/…aldwych-a4-310314.pdf and https:/…county-hall-a4-290314.pdf From the Tower you may take the 15 back to St Paul's https:/…tower-of-london-a4-130713.pdf

The number 9 from Aldwych will take you past Green Park for Buckingham Palace or on to Hyde Park Corner for westbound connections, say to the museums and along Brompton Road: https:/…hydeparkcorner-a4.pdf

There are times when traffic can slow to a crawl, but unless there is an event on in the city centre such that a great many bus routes are on diversion, they will move as quickly as possible. With a bit of forward planning you can save pounds and see what you want on your timetable rather than the tour bus company's schedule.
