Unless you wish to pay £150 for an Anytime ticket you should book the train before your date of travel. London Euston to Liverpool Lime Street takes about two and a quarter hours with no change of train needed. Keep in mind that Advance tickets are very restricted; you may travel *only* on the specific trains booked. Off Peak fares have more flexibility but are more expensive.

Book at www.virgintrains.co.uk Whether or not you can 'hit' Abbey Road on the same day you travel to Liverpool is up to you. Take the 139 or 189 from Baker Street, as both travel along Abbey Road. You may take the 18, 30 or 205 from Euston to Baker Street if you want to have a go on the day of your Liverpool jaunt. https:/…euston-310813.pdf

I'm seeing advance tickets for £12.50 in each directions between Euston and Liverpool Lime Street for 20 September. The earliest train to Liverpool with that fare is the 7.07am, and the latest return from Lime Street at that fare is the 1948 (7.48pm). A £25 return is excellent value so book them as soon as possible on the Virgin Trains website that TP has provided. Remember that those advance fares restrict you to the specific train; miss one and you lose the ticket.

I would personally go and see the Abbey Road crossing on another day. Why would you want to take a detour to St. John's Wood on that day when you should be getting you full day's worth in Liverpool?
