London Heathrow to St Pancras Kings Cross

We will be arriving at Heathrow and need to get to St Pancras/Kings Cross to our hotel august 31st. Can someone tell me which train to take and where I can board after coming out of airport. We arrive 7:30 am and have one full day in London. We've visited london twice before, but never stayed in kings cross. Anything of interest to see in that area.

Any suggestions would be so appreciated

Piccadilly Line tube to Kings Cross/St Pancras. Direct run. Look for the signs to the Underground.

As for the area, you could take time just to wander round the stations themselves. Both are grand structures from the Victorian Age - you might almost call them cathedrals of trains - and they have recently been extensively renovated to bring out the best of their heritage whilst creating facilities suited to the demands of the 21st-Century traveller. Also explore the former Railway lands behind the stations and the Regent's Canal, an outstanding example of urban regeneration.

You could wander around Islington and Barnsbury, with their fine Edwardian and Victorian squares.

Also you are not far from the British Museum.

If you want more conventional tourist highlights, Kings Cross is served by six Underground lines and numerous bus routes. If you buy one-day travelcards at Heathrow Underground for £8.90 each you can not only travel into Central London but you also have free travel around London for the rest of the day.

Just to add to wirewiper's information-packed post, the British Library is also adjacent to King's Cross. Even if you are not a library type of person, the "Treasures of the British Library" exhibition (near the entrance to the library) will fascinate you. It contains the original words of a Beatles song " written on a card by Paul McCartney. You will also find Scott's orginal diary which was found in his tent after he died on his final polar exhibition. And the library card application signed by V.I. Lenin (but using a pseudonym) which he used in order to gain access to the British Library. All in all, the "Treasures" exhibition is magnificent.

I would second wirewiper's recommendation of the British Museum, if only to see the famous Rosetta Stone and the Elgin Marbles (which were removed from the Parthenon in Athens).

In conclusion, King's Cross is a superb place for museums and libraries.
