Christmas Markets in the UK - any suggestions?

As it is only just over 3 months til Christmas, I am toying with the idea of getting away for a weekend a month or so before Christmas.

Can anyone suggest any UK towns that usually have a Christmas market. I know they're popular on the continent but would like to go one in the UK and combine it with a weekend of sight seeing and drinking (of course) in that town.

Try Edinburgh - a really good Christmas market, with all the varied attractions of the city as well.

The site for Bath's Christmas market with times and stall info is http://www.bathchristmasmarket.co.uk/. It's usually quite nice and atmospheric, being in the squares beside the Abbey and the Baths, and can get very busy at weekends. Plenty of mulled wine to drink usually... although Bath's pretty good for nice pubs generally, and the Crystal Palace pub is virtually in the christmas market.

Lincoln, beautiful market all round the castle area and the streets near the Cathedral.

Mick: I've been to the one in Cheltenham Spa, which was small but lovely. Also visited the one in Birmingham, which was very nice.

Lincoln is a great market and the city has plenty to offer. You could of course trek across the wilds of Yorkshire to Grassington.

There is (possibly worryingly) a website devoted to all things Christmas market related - http://www.christmasmarkets.com/

somewhere out there
