Take the train to Brighton. You can go out of Victoria or Kings Cross Thameslink. It's a very easy walk from the train station into town or you can get a taxi. I don't see any reason to go on a tour. Brighton is very easy to see on your own.

Train. The bus is generally cheaper but you will get stuck in weekend traffic. The train is easy as mentioned above and it is a stroll downhill to the waterfront from the station.

Train and you dont need a guide, just go to the tourist websites and pick out some places you'd like to visit, its all walkable.

From Victoria Station, there are fast trains (50 mins) at approximately 06 and 36 minutes past each hour (not on Sunday, though - there are no fast trains on Sunday).

If you are going for just one day, ask for a Cheap Day Return ticket.

You can also go from London Bridge or anywhere on the ThamesLink line, depending where you are staying. See firstcapitalconnect.co.uk/pages/…default.aspx for the route map. Once you get to Brighton Station just head downhill towards the beach. You shouldn't need a travel agency for that.
