Just got back from London and we used two Oyster cards. If you aren't familiar with them, here's the one we chose:
You pay a £3 deposit which you get back when you turn the card back in at the underground station. You "pre-load" the card with whatever amount of money you choose (although there is a minimum of £10) The great thing about the Oyster card is that rides on the tube have now gone up to a staggering £3. Using an Oyster card slashes the cost of a Tube ride in half to £1.50 when traveling in Zone 1. If you take several rides in a single day, the Oyster card will never deduct more than the price of a One-Day Travelcard (now £6.20, or £4.90 off-peak) For more details, visit www.tfl.gov.uk/oyster.
Anyway, in all of the hassle of leaving London and going to Paris, we forgot to turn in our Oyster cards to get the deposit back, plus whatever was left on the card.
Incidentally, the Oyster card will get you buy-one, get-one free on the London Eye. This itself is worth £13.50. You also get buy-one, get-one free on attractions, ballets, concerts, and exhibitions. So you can't lose with this card...any money not spend you get back and if you use it for the London Eye, you'll save enough for at least a pub meal!
So if you're going to London and would like two Oyster cards, please email me at firstname.lastname@example.org. I'm sure we can work something out - I'll have to figure out postage to wherever you are. I'll also be glad to answer any questions about the other things we did.
London was great...if you've been, you already know...if you haven't , you're in for a treat.
We also had tea at the Wolseley; one of the most enjoyable experiences we had while there. We literally could not eat everything they served. I had the Wolseley House Tea and my daughter chose the Jasmine. Both were delicious. The shows we saw were Stomp, Les Miserables and the Lion King; all available for half price at the Leicester Square ticket booth. (You buy these tickets for same day performances). All three shows were fabulous. Take mini binoculars so that you can see up close.
Have fun on your London trip!
