Redcar - search for relatives - Help!

Travelling next month to the area and would like to research family with whom we have lost touch @ 15 years ago. I have last known address in Redcar - an apartment complex - they were elderly and may have passed. Looking for suggestions on how to research...Is there a local office who records current addresses or death records? Local telephone listing etc. Appreciate your replies.

Most counites have a local history library which may be able to help you. In this case the council name is Redcar & Clevelend and I would start with the

Reference Library

Coatham Road,

Redcar

Tel: (01642) 489292

E-mail: reference_library@redcar-cleveland.gov.uk

They may be able to help and if not should be able to direct you.

You can try online directory enquiries at www.bt.com ('find a person' at the bottom left) although a lot of people choose to be ex-directory.

The reference library or council offices should have the local register of electors. Registrar of deaths will be at the appropriate council offices

It may be worth writing as, if they have moved in the last year (perhaps to sheltered housing) they may have a mail redirect set up. (It would be worth writing anyway if theyr'e old or the pleasure of seeing you again might prove too much...)

Googling the apartment complex might show a contact for a caretaker or residents' association who might be willing to help.

If nothing else works, a 'please help' letter to the local paper might.
