Taking hubby to YORK for surprise nite out.......

In april with 2 friends. We are staying at the travelodge in the city.

Can anyone reccomend where to go for winebars, and a good nite out.

I use to live in york,10yrs ago so obviously changed a bit since then!

I preferred to go out more up stonegate(student type pubs) rather than YATES and those type!!

Thanks in advance

You're right next to what is now the 'restaurant row' of York - Fossgate. Have a read of the menus as you're heading into the city (I had a cracking lunch at Mason's last week - bargain too at lunch time)

I cant' think of any winebar type of places that I think you mean but my favourite pubs are places that have been there for hundreds of years so no doubt you already know them!

A little away from Stonegate, but The Living Room looking over the River is a nice bar, live singer/music on sometimes

Stonegate side there is:

www.thebiltmorebarandgrill.com

Oscars (been there a long time so you may remember it!)

Wildes is just around the back of the Slug & Lettuce,

also www.kennedyscafebar.co.uk

Not all strictly wine bars, but no Yates in there!

Food: These ones are the more pricy ones:

www.thebluebicycle.com

Chain restaurant, but I've had some good meals there:

Most of the bars above do food also.

Quite a few threads recently about bars & restaurants some might be worth a look.

Hope this is of some help!

i like o'neiils on the bridge and down to the kings arms on the river. Isn't there a small wine bar near here? Its not far from the Lowther, but have forgotten its name. I must have had too much Guinness.
