Hi, if you have no luck with the Tourist Information Centre (tic@york-tourism.co.uk), then there is a Summer Sunday Leisure bus from York to Fountains Abbey: http://website.lineone.net/~travelinfo/dales/812.html

At other times, you can take the regular bus (Arriva 142) from York to Ripon and get a taxi for the short distance from Ripon to Fountains Abbey: http://www.arrivabus.co.uk/__80256E280053B5B6.nsf/vWeb/flDNOS65CLBJ/$File/014105ay02040.pdf?Open&region=Yorkshire&town=Ripon&service=142

Ripon is worth visiting in any case, an attractive North Yorkshire market town with a beautiful cathedral: http://www.riponcity.info/

Loads more info at www.fountainsabbey.org.uk

It is owned by The National Trust and last years admission was five pounds 50 pence and that includes admission to the adjoining Studley Royal Gardens which provide a fascinating contrast to the ruins of the Abbey. Have a good trip!
