Celebrating in York

We will be visiting family who live in York at the end of December and are trying to think of family friendly things to do with our 4 year old daughter and the family (without asking them/surprising them). Not being from the area, or country for that matter, it is difficult to know these things! They recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary so maybe a way to incorporate that as well?

Not quite sure what you're after tbh. However there's lots of interesting sights to look at like a walk on the bar walls, walk done stonegate/shambles, visit one of the museums. If weather is bad Jorvik is inside as is the national railway museum. If you want something to eat then try the traditional afternoon tea at Betty's.

I would say that if they live there and you don't, then they will know more about the area and what to do, so forget the 'surprise' and just ask them.
